DO YOU WANT TO CLIMATIZE YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS?
[toc]
Choosing the right air conditioner for your home can be difficult at times, but contrary to what you think, it’s easier than you might think. We must analyze the offers offered by the manufacturers and the technical characteristics of the devices we are interested in. It is important to remember that an air-conditioning split with optimum maintenance will last us more than 10 years, so it is very important to be clear about our needs in our home. And that’s where we, the APlus group, come in and explain to you which factors are the most important when it comes to choosing your air conditioner.
CONSIDERATIONS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT FOR YOUR AIR CONDITIONING
Before we start buying a wall split, we have to take into account several aspects. If your house has pre-installed air-conditioning ducts, it is advisable to opt for this option to avoid having the equipment in sight.
If you do not have the option to install ducted air conditioning, the option is to install fixed air conditioners or split air conditioners. We must ensure that wherever we are going to install our air equipment there is sufficient space for its placement. To choose one model or another we must know if we want to air-condition a room or several, so our decision may vary from the choice of a Split 1×1 to, depending on the number of rooms, a Multi Split of 2×1, 3×1, 4×1, etc..
THE CHOICE OF POWER
To choose our air conditioning we must calculate the necessary cooling for our home or premises. In general, for every square metre you need 100 frigories, that is, for a room of 35m2, you need 3500 frigories.
If we want to know the power that our air conditioning equipment will consume in our 35m2 room, it would be enough to multiply the necessary cooling capacity by 1.163W, which would require 4.07kW/h for our room. Our recommendation for these cases is to always choose the power a little higher than the necessary one, the equipment will not always have to work at 100% and we would reduce the consumption and increase the useful life of our air conditioning unit.
In the event that we install a duct or cassette system, the corridors, toilets and bathrooms are generally not air-conditioned, so we do not need so many frigories/power for our homes.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY, HOW MUCH DOES IT MATTER?
Energy efficiency is a fact that must be taken into account when choosing an air conditioning unit, whether it is a wall splitter or a duct machine, but not only and exclusively by this fact. Our air conditioners should have a label on them indicating the energy efficiency value of the appliance. In this label we will find a series of colors and letters to differentiate the efficiency of each device.
The colours we find are red for the most efficient, orange, yellow and various shades of green for the most efficient. In the case of letters, we find that the letter G is for equipment that has the worst energy efficiency and the letter A+++ for equipment with the best energy efficiency. The higher the energy efficiency, the lower the energy consumption, therefore, our electricity bill will be much lower.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF OUR AIR-CONDITIONING UNIT
When choosing our air conditioning equipment we must ensure that it is efficient. As we have just commented in previous lines, efficient equipment means savings in our electricity bill and relief for our pockets. If we want to calculate the consumption of our appliances, it is as simple as dividing the power of the air conditioning equipment by the SEER value (if what our appliance produces is cold air) or by the SCOP value (if what it produces is hot air).
The values of SEER and SCOP according to their energy efficiency are: A++++ a SEER value ≥ 8.50 and a SCOP value ≥ 5.10
A++ a value of 6.10 ≤ SEER ≤ 8.50 and a value of 4.60 ≤ SCOP ≤ 5.10 A+ a value of 5.60 ≤ SEER ≤ 6.10 and a value of 4.00 ≤ SCOP ≤ 4.60
At a value of 5.10 ≤ SEER ≤ 5.60 and a value of 3.40 ≤ SCOP ≤ 4.00
B a value 4.60 ≤ SEER ≤ 5.10 and a value 3.10 ≤ SCOP ≤ 3.40
NOISE IN AN AIR CONDITIONER, DO I NEED EARPLUGS?
Another element to take into account when choosing air conditioning equipment is the noise level or decibels it will produce. It can be bothersome and uncomfortable for a device to make a lot of noise during sleep, such as when you take a nap or when you go to bed at night. It is recommended that our air conditioning equipment does not exceed 25dB to notice as little as possible that it is connected.
FOR SUMMER, FOR WINTER OR FOREVER?
Another point we don’t pay much attention to is that we want it, if it’s only for summer and to be cool, or on the contrary, we also want it for winter and not to be too cold. Depending on the choice you make, you should choose models with or without a heat pump.
SIZE DOES MATTER
And we continue on to another point, and no less important, than the size of the air-conditioning unit. Not all equipment is the same size, and depending on where you want to install it, you will have to choose one size or another, depending on the space available. Special attention should be paid if the equipment to be installed is a ducted air conditioner, as the internal units must be installed on the ceiling and we have to adapt to the available space.
EXTRAS IN OUR AIR CONDITIONING
The WIFI is an extra that is currently starting to be implemented, and can be really useful when plugging in our equipment for when we get home we find it at an ideal temperature, either by cold or heat.
The filters are also an important point when selecting our equipment, as depending on the type of filter you have, we will benefit from eliminating bad smells, purifying the air if we are asthmatic or have any allergies or improving the air quality through negative ions.
The Inverter system is now in operation in most air-conditioning systems. This system is responsible for regulating the air conditioning mechanism, preventing it from stopping and starting when it has or has not reached the selected temperature and continuously regulates the compressor. This ensures that the temperature in the room where the unit is located is maintained and also prolongs the life of the compressor of our air-conditioning unit.
After this, we hope that we have helped you in the choice of your air conditioner, but before we finish with our advice, we remind you that to benefit from the numerous advantages of air conditioners, it is very important to maintain the ideal temperature of the room, between 18º and 21º in summer and between 24º and 28º in winter, as well as keeping the air filters in good condition and a good degree of humidity.
